- Women-focused travel – Women 50+ are traveling in a variety of ways. Solo travel and women-only adventures will continue to be popular options, even for women who sometimes travel as part of a couple.
- Travel by small ship – In 2020, travelers 50+ will continue be drawn to small ship travel. Travelers enjoy the chance to visit more remote and smaller ports with smaller vessels, and the opportunity to mingle in small groups with locals in an un-touristy way. O.A.T. experienced 20 percent growth in Small Ships adventures in 2019.
- Interest in undertouristed destinations – With some overtouristed destinations making pleas for tourists to stay away, 2020 will make room for undertouristed destinations such as Ethiopia, Tunisia, and Albania to get another look from travelers who once may not have considered them.
- Slow travel – In 2020, travelers 50+ will show greater interest in traveling at a relaxed pace, rather than cramming as much sightseeing as possible into hectic days. Slow travel emphasizes cultural immersion and spending time making connections to local people and their culture where they live and work.
- Impact tourism – Travelers' desire to give back to the communities they visit will continue to gain steam in 2020. Increasingly, the opportunity for travelers to provide support to local community projects, schools, and women's collectives will be intrinsic to the core travel experience.
