BROOKLYN, N.Y., Feb. 12, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Overtime, the fast-growing sports company for the next generation, announced today that it has acquired Evade, one of the world's leading Fortnite organizations. Overtime also announced that it has formed a new team, Overtime Gaming, that will serve as the home of Overtime's esports and gaming-related initiatives.
Overtime Gaming combines the strengths of Evade and Team Overtime, the company's existing Fortnite team. In just a year of existence, Evade has grown into a significant presence within the Fortnite world, with a community of more than 600,000 followers and a strong roster of competitive players. Team Overtime's players have set Fortnite world records and placed in top tournaments like Twitch Rivals and Fortnite Champions Series (FNCS) since the team's formation in 2018.
Combining those teams into a single organization gives Overtime a formidable roster of YouTubers, streamers and pros with an audience of more than 10 million followers. Overtime Gaming will now rank as one of North America's top 10 teams in the FNCS power rankings, based on players' individual pro points.
Overtime Gaming has signed five current Evade players, including Kariyu, Orange, Pocket, Spayde and Tweaks, and is actively seeking additional talent to join the team. These initial signees join Overtime's existing Fortnite players: Aircool, Inspyre and Thresh. Evade's owner, Hantao Yuan, will serve as the head of Overtime Gaming.
Overtime Gaming will also create lifestyle content via OvertimeTW, a team Overtime formed in December to create content around gamers who play the 2K video game. This team, the largest of its kind in the 2K world, will operate as a team-within-a-team as a part of Overtime Gaming.
"Overtime comes to the table with a large community, an existing infrastructure for developing and selling content, and expertise in merchandising," said Overtime Gaming head Hantao Yuan. "That combo is unique in the gaming world. Together, we can bring gaming content to a larger and more diverse audience, and create new experiences that translate gaming's energy and excitement into real life."
The team will create a mix of short- and long-form content that covers gaming and gamers the Overtime way, focusing on storytelling, not stats. Overtime Gaming will offer unique, entertaining gameplay and competitive performance content. But it will go even further, showcasing gamers' personalities, their lifestyles and their culture – not just their grind. Overtime will bring this programming to a much wider audience beyond the traditional gaming world by cross-promoting it across Overtime's other social channels, which today reach more than 24 million followers.
"Stories about players' lives, challenges and hopes are told everywhere in traditional sports. There's a massive opportunity to tell those stories in gaming," said Dan Porter, Overtime's CEO and co-founder. "I couldn't be more excited to work with Hantao and our team to find those stories and help tell them in a way that speaks to our community and the next generation."
