Next generation sports brand continues expansion creating disruptive sports IP
BROOKLYN, N.Y., April 17, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Overtime, the leading brand for the next generation of sports fans, announced today that former Major League Baseball CFO Jonathan Mariner, has joined the organization's Board of Directors. Following the appointment of Mariner, the Board will be comprised of seven members including co-founders Dan Porter and Zack Weiner, Liberty Media Vice President of Corporate Development Josef Hoelscher, Sapphire Sport Partner Michael Spirito, Winslow Capital Management Growth Portfolio Manager Kelly Flynn and business mogul Daymond John.
Mariner, who was an early senior advisor in the development of Overtime Elite, is a private investor, entrepreneur, and independent board member with more than two decades of experience working in professional sports.
"It is remarkable how quickly Overtime has grown since a small group of us joined the team several years ago to initially explore the idea of a dedicated professional basketball league," said Jonathan Mariner. "I can remember those early meetings and conversations about how to shape Overtime Elite, and to see how it has now grown and developed is a testament to the leadership and staff who have created something special. And now with the development of OT7 and OTX, it's an exciting time to be joining the board."
Mariner is the Founder and President of TaxDay, LLC, a private software firm that developed and operates an app to help users track their multi-state travel for tax purposes. He also spent over 14 years with Major League Baseball, serving as Executive VP, CFO and Chief Investment Officer at the Office of the Commissioner. Prior to that, for nine years, he served as Executive Vice President and CFO of the Florida Marlins Baseball Club, where he concurrently served as Vice President and CFO of the Florida Panthers Hockey Club for the team's initial startup and inaugural seasons in 1993 and 1994.
"We were fortunate to have had Jonathan's experience and expertise when we started OTE and we are grateful to be able to continue working with Jonathan as an Overtime board member," said Overtime CEO and Co-Founder Dan Porter. "Jonathan's understanding of the sports landscape and deep relationships across the industry will be an asset as we continue our focus on growth."
Overtime has continued to grow its business with the expansion of its sports IP including professional basketball league Overtime Elite, football league OT7, and OTX (boxing). Last year, it announced it had raised $100 million in Series D funding led by Liberty Media. Notable Overtime investors include Bezos Expeditions (the personal investment company of Jeff Bezos), Drake, Micromanagement Ventures (the family of the late David Stern), Alexis Ohanian, Jeff Kearl (via Pelion Capital), Amazon, Morgan Stanley Counterpoint Global, Blackstone Strategic Partners, and more than 25 current and former NBA stars, including Trae Young, Devin Booker, Klay Thompson and Pau Gasol.
