Local roofing company donated its labor, equipment and expertise to help restore safety and peace of mind for longtime homeowners.
PORTLAND, Ore., Oct. 13, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Pacific West Roofing recently partnered with local nonprofit Catalyst Partnerships NW and Malarkey Roofing Products to provide a complete roof replacement for a North Portland family at no cost to the homeowners.
Mr. and Mrs. Williams have lived in their North Portland home for more than 20 years. Several years ago, Mrs. Williams stepped away from her medical career to provide full-time care for a family member with special needs. Like many families living on a limited income, the Williamses watched their list of necessary home repairs grow beyond what they could afford. The roof became the most urgent concern.
The family patched problem areas and completed repairs themselves whenever possible, but the roof continued to deteriorate. Eventually, their homeowners insurance company flagged the property and canceled the policy when the roof could not be replaced, leaving the family without coverage or peace of mind.
When Catalyst Partnerships NW learned about the family's situation, the organization determined that the roof had reached the end of its lifespan and required a complete replacement—more than a volunteer team could accomplish alone.
Catalyst reached out to Pacific West Roofing, which stepped in to donate the labor, equipment, expertise and disposal costs needed to complete the project. Malarkey Roofing Products donated the shingles, while Catalyst supplied the plywood sheathing, vents and roofing metals.
Pacific West Roofing's crew removed the aging roofing system, installed new plywood sheathing and completed the roof replacement using the donated Malarkey shingles. The new roof restored the home's protection from the elements, improved its appearance and opened the door for the Williams family to obtain homeowners insurance once again.
"This project reflects what it means to be part of the Portland community," said Brian Jarvis, co-owner of Pacific West Roofing. "When a local family needs help, we believe local businesses should step up. Pacific West Roofing is grateful to partner with Catalyst and Malarkey to give the Williams family a safe, reliable roof and greater peace of mind."
The Williams project also marked the beginning of a new partnership model for Catalyst—bringing together nonprofit resources, donated materials and professional expertise to complete critical home repairs that families could not otherwise afford.
"I want to sincerely thank you for the incredible partnership we have started," said Mike Moser, program director at Catalyst Partnerships NW, in a message to Pacific West Roofing. "Because of your generosity and commitment to serving our community, Joarie and her family now have a safe, reliable roof over their heads. This project truly changed their lives, and it would not have been possible without your support. "Thank you again for investing in our neighbors and for helping make projects like this a reality. I look forward to partnering with you again next year!"
