MONTCLAIR, N.J., April 23, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- PAINWeekEnd on May 18-19 at the DoubleTree by Hilton--Greenway Plaza, 6 E Greenway Plaza, Houston, Texas, will be a timely two-day program providing busy clinicians and allied healthcare practitioners with 12.0 hours of relevant, practical instruction in the management of chronic pain.
The Texas Medical Board requires all personnel who provide medical services to patients in a pain clinic setting to complete 10 hours of continuing medical education in pain management each year. The state has additionally sought to address the prescribing activity of all physicians in the arena of controlled substances, with revised prescription forms that become mandatory for use on June 1, and a deadline of September 1 for registration with PMP Aware, the state's prescription drug monitoring program. PAINWeekEnd Houston will prepare attendees to comply with these and other stipulations, and to achieve better outcomes for their patients with pain.
Course topics will explore the management of different pain syndromes, provide strategies for navigating the complex legal and regulatory landscape of pain practice, and convey the latest information on cutting edge topics in pain. In his course "How Central is Central Poststroke Pain?" senior faculty member Michael Bottros, MD, will discuss what we know about the mechanisms underlying this neuropathic pain disorder. He will also present "Mirror, Mirror on the Wall: Graded Motor Imagery to Treat Complex Regional Pain Syndrome" about which he explained, "Graded motor imagery (GMI) is a comprehensive program aimed at sequentially activating motor cortical networks of the disordered limb to improve neural reorganization. In this course, we will discuss the leading mechanisms for the development of CRPS, along with a review of GMI and its outcomes as well as other treatment algorithms."
Other courses to be offered at PAINWeekEnd Houston include "The Regulatory Agency will See You Now"; "Trainwreck: Addressing Complex Pharmacotherapy With the Inherited Pain Patient"; "Embrace Changes and Prevent Overdose: A Basic Blueprint for Legal Risk Mitigation and Response"; "Cannabis vs Cannabinoids: The Politics of Medical Marijuana"; "The Other Opioid Crisis: Heroin and Fentanyl"; "Get Your Specimens in Order: Timely Use of Test Results"; "Pain Pathways Made Simple"; "Precise Prescribing: Applying the Science of Pain to Treatment Decisions"; "Clinical Pearls: Unraveling the Secrets of Imaging Studies"; and "Rational Polypharmacy."
