Of these 40, at least 2 credits must be in prescribing controlled substances. Specialized CME in pain management is required for providers of intractable pain management. On June 29, 2018, Governor Bill Haslam signed new legislation in support of TN Together, a multifaceted initiative to address opioid abuse and misuse in the state. The legislative component limits initial opioid prescriptions to a 3-day supply and revises the schedule of controlled substances to better track, monitor, and penalize illegal drug distribution and use. The initiative also boosts funding for treatment services, law enforcement resources, and provides for additional first-responder ability to deliver emergency naloxone treatment.
