Palacio Inc. disrupts the art market with Canvia, a 'smart art' digital display that looks like a real painting
Canvia uses proprietary image processing and built-in sensors to make any digital image of art look like a real painting or high quality print, whatever the environment. New tech combines with an expansive library of curated content to redefine art as an experience.
SAN FRANCISCO, July 6, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Silicon Valley startup Palacio Inc. is proud to announce the launch of Canvia on Kickstarter on July 11th.
Canvia redefines art as an experience through the confluence of innovative technologies, device features and curated content. It delivers the best of both worlds: an authentic art viewing experience and complete freedom to change the art displayed to suit varying tastes, décor, occasions and times of day, accessed from an expansive online library.
Imagine waking up to a J.M.W. Turner sunrise, switching to a Rembrandt still life for lunch, spending an afternoon with Van Gogh and then energizing some evening drinks with a Basquiat - all with easy control via app, web or voice, and without compromising on the quality of the art.
Canvia uses Palacio's patent-pending ArtSense technology to simulate the behavior of physical art on a digital screen. ArtSense combines built-in sensors and proprietary image processing to analyze ambient visual conditions. This data is used to automatically adjust the digital display to appear light-reflective rather than light-emitting, as with physical art, and ensure all images conserve realistic details whatever the environment - even individual brushstrokes.
Users can select specific art or themed playlists from Palacio's growing library of over 3,000 works. The varied collection includes art across all genres, eras and cultures, from Old Masters to Contemporary and emerging Modern art. Each work is carefully curated and tested for quality, and Canvia's unique recommendation engine suggests art as it learns more about customers' specific décor and preferences. Additional functionality to zoom into works, overlay explanatory captions and upload personal content enables users to become their own curators.
Each year, an estimated US$150 billion is spent by consumers on arts and culture-related goods in the U.S. However, the art market often feels restricted or intimidating, confined to the wealthy elite or art connoisseurs. Many people find it difficult to justify investing in a single artwork due to the expense of buying something so unique that may not always fit to a changing personal taste or style over the years. Palacio Inc., however, aims to disrupt the art and decoration market by giving everyone access to thousands of artworks in a single frame. Incorporating technology into the beauty of art not only makes the experience more interactive and accessible for the consumer, but also allows for flexibility. With Canvia, anyone can hang great art in their homes and adapt it to fit their changing tastes and décor.
"We want to bring real value to customers through decorative and smart products that enlighten their living and work spaces and adapt to different decoration themes," said Rahul Ranjan, founder and CEO of Palacio Inc. "Canvia represents a long desired device that empowers "art as an experience" for art enthusiasts and maintains an authentic look at the same time."
Canvia's Kickstarter campaign will launch on July 11th. All backers will benefit from up to 60% off the retail price.
