Paradigm Malibu Launches Updated Emotional Health Treatment Program
Malibu, California (PRWEB) September 17, 2013 -- Statistics from the mental health field indicate at least 13 percent of teens in America suffer from some form of emotional issue including depression, acute stress disorder, anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder and a number of other common conditions. While these problems can be triggered by typical situations such as the loss of friends and family members, moving to a new location and difficulties at home or at school, emotional deterioration can also cause further complications for teens and their families. In order to help teens in need of treatment for such issues, Paradigm Malibu has launched an updated emotional health treatment program in part of their residential treatment facility.
Cole Rucker of Paradigm Malibu stated, "The new Emotional Health component of our youth treatment center is designed to treat the full range of teen emotional health issues rather than simply focusing on negative behavior. Therapy is conducted by licensed clinical therapists with specific expertise in adolescent treatment. We offer these teens a full array of emotional health intervention."
Research has proven adolescence is the greatest time of emotional growth and change in a person's life. Trauma emerging during this stage can bring about any number of disorders. Teens facing troublesome home lives may turn to drug and alcohol abuse as a method of coping with such issues. At the same time, those facing severe peer pressure in may resort to eating disorders or drug and alcohol use in order to fit in with those in their social circle. This could, in turn, lead to depression and difficulties at home.
Paradigm Malibu now provides a multifaceted emotional health treatment program for teens. Once admitted, all teens receive a complete psychiatric evaluation from a Board Certified Adolescent Psychiatrist. The evaluation is tailored to meet the needs of each individual teen but can include current mental and physical issues, complete personal and family medical and psychological history and analysis of the teen's family and social relationships. Teens will also undergo written, verbal and visual psychological testing to determine their emotional state and cognitive function. The results of these initial evaluations will be the foundation for a unique teen rehab treatment plan developed by Paradigm's interdisciplinary treatment team.
Paradigm offers individual, group and family therapy sessions to elicit positive changes in the affected teens and promote the ability to sustain those changes once the teens leave the facility. Teens learn stress management, positive communication and interpersonal skills, empathy and focusing on healthy relationship patterns through equine and animal assisted therapy. Art, music, dance, cinema, drama, written and narrative therapies are used in the expressive arts therapy program to provide teens with effective methods of expressing themselves.
