Parker and Sons Encourages Residents of the Valley to Meet the New SEER Rating
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) April 23, 2015 -- The United States Department of Energy has issued a new minimum standard for air conditioning efficiency that went into effect January 1, 2015. The Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) was raised to 13 to 14 for states in the South and Southwest. SEER rating measures how much cooling power is produced in comparison to the total amount of energy expended. The regulation is geared toward manufactures, however, and Parker and Sons recommends compliance with the regulation to its customers.
“Residents of Phoenix in older homes should be aware that their air conditioning unit may be out of date. Often times, we encounter older homes that run inefficient AC’s with a SEER rating as low as 8. These homeowners are wasting energy and driving up their bills. From an economic standpoint, homeowners with outdated AC units should upgrade to the new required SEER rating,” said Kelly, President of Parker and Sons.
The new regulation stipulates that Manufactures will no longer be permitted to produce air conditioning units with a SEER rating below 14 after January 1 of 2015. However, manufacturers are granted an 18 month grace period in which they are permitted to sell AC units with a SEER rating below 14. Ultimately, consumers will profit from this stipulation. Manufactures will no doubt be forced to discount these units in order to move their inventory before the final dead line goes into effect.
“The new SEER requirement instituted by the United States Department of Energy is very fair. It gives manufacturers enough time to move their inventory, and it will ultimately lead to reduced energy bills for consumers. To be honest, the increased SEER rating was a long time overdue,” said Kelly.
