Partnering to Create a Respectful and Safer Campus
Columbia University and Vistelar, LLC Collaborate to Enhance Non-Escalation/De-Escalation Skills for Public Safety Officers
MILWAUKEE, August 5, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Columbia University today announced a strategic training partnership with Vistelar, LLC to help ensure its campus remains respectful and safe during COVID-19 times and beyond. This partnership establishes the Wisconsin-based company as a conflict management training vendor for Columbia University Public Safety.
Prompted by the challenges of COVID-19 and the vision to ensure that all students and staff are protected on campus, the team recognized its public safety staff needed to add to it's existing conflict management and resolution tools to help build confidence and better prepare staff to deal with these challenging situations on campus.
"We realized that we needed to update and expand on our already robust de-escalation and conflict management training; and to do so, we reviewed numerous conflict management vendors," said Al Becker, Executive Director of Finance and Administration. "After researching many possible options, we selected Vistelar because their online non-escalation/de-escalation for campus public safety program was exactly what we were looking for. We anticipate our 300 public safety members will complete the course and be able to immediately use the skills they've learned while on patrol around our campus."
Through its partnership with Vistelar, Columbia University will receive an online course for each public safety member.
