Grant award provides significant support to both new and ongoing efforts of the Partnership, including Ambassador program.
FREDERICK, Md., April 19, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Downtown Frederick Partnership was awarded a $100,000 grant from the State of Maryland as a part of Governor Hogan's Community Safety Works program.
Administered by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), Community Safety Works grants encourage the implementation of crime prevention strategies through physical design improvements, operational activities, community vigilance, blight removal and increased property maintenance.
"This grant award provides significant support to both new and ongoing efforts of the Partnership," said Kara Norman, Executive Director. "We are thrilled to learn that our full request for grant support was funded by the State of Maryland."
The Partnership will use this funding for the following projects:
- Ambassador Program: $80,000; The Ambassador Program covers more than 17 blocks of Downtown Frederick – including Market Street, Patrick Street, Carroll Creek Linear Park and Everedy Square & Shab Row.
Ambassadors help keep Downtown Frederick a safe and beautiful destination by providing essential functions, such as actively engaging pedestrians with friendly greetings and assistance, providing directions and information to visitors, picking up trash and power washing sidewalks, removing graffiti and stickers from light poles and other public infrastructure, collecting leaves and debris from sidewalks and gutters, pulling weeds in public spaces, and so much more! Downtown Frederick Partnership contracts with Block by Block to provide this service.
During the winter months, the program has 4 FTEs: 2 clean and 2 safety which includes an Operations Manager who is largely on the street. Program staffing will increase to 6 FTEs in the warmer months. Coverage is between 7AM and 9/10PM Wednesday through Sunday.
- Security Camera Grant: $15,000; Downtown retail/restaurant/personal service businesses will receive a grant of up to $500 to purchase security cameras that meet police specifications, then register their cameras through an existing police program and provide the police access to video footage when asked. Businesses will be responsible for ongoing maintenance.
- Citizen's Way Alley Lights: $5,000; This project will install string lights in this alley which connects the Court St Public Parking Garage with Market Street.
- Should either the Safety Camera or the alley lights projects come in under budget, remaining funds will support the Ambassador Program.
Downtown Frederick Partnership works to enhance, promote and preserve the vitality, livability and diversity of Downtown Frederick, a national Main Street community.
