Siebert, an Honorary Director on the Board of SACC-USA, toured the PartnerTech North American facility, met with management and addressed the staff in participation with guest speaker, Andreas von Uexkull. The topic of international trade was a top priority with discussion of the Trans-Atlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) as well as re-shoring and the increase in manufacturing in the U.S.
Manufacturing in the U.S. has seen significant growth in the past five years. Businesses are re-shoring to the U.S. to take advantage of supply chain optimization, proximity to design and engineering expertise and to take advantage of lower energy costs–which has a favorable long-term outlook.
Siebert strongly supports reshoring efforts in the U.S. for its role in strengthening the economy and development of skilled workers. More than a patriotic expression, Made in America reflects the belief that objective decision making is leading businesses back to the U.S. America has again become a favorable location to produce and source goods for the U.S. market and for export to other countries.
On reshoring, Siebert says, "When taking a holistic view of costs, reshoring is the best objective answer for many businesses. Thomas Siebert served as U.S. Ambassador to Sweden (1994-98) and is a member of the Council of American Ambassadors. In 1998, he served as Chairman of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference. Ambassador Siebert currently serves on the Advisory Board to the American Bar Association’s International Criminal Courts Project, a subset of the ABA’s Center for Human Rights. Ambassador Siebert serves on the Diplomatic Council to Securing America's Energy Future (SAFE), a nonpartisan, not-for-profit organization committed to reducing America's dependence on foreign oil and improving U.S. energy security. He also serves as Chairman of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute – North America (SIPRI-NA) headquartered in Washington, DC. SIPRI-NA’s charter is to contribute to policy debates on global and regional security issues through dissemination of SIPRI research, analysis, and recommendations drawn from SIPRI’s global networks. He also serves on the Board of American Citizens Abroad (ACA) Global Foundation. Ambassador Siebert is an attorney and international business advisor in Washington, DC. He is a graduate of Georgetown University and Georgetown University Law School.
