Paul Bodnar, Climate Policy and Finance Expert, Joins Rocky Mountain Institute
Boulder, CO (PRWEB) May 06, 2016 -- Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) is pleased to announce the addition of Paul Bodnar to the organization’s team as a senior fellow. Paul will be drawing on his experience as a key architect of the Obama Administration’s international climate policies as well as his track record in clean energy investment in Europe and emerging markets. At RMI, Paul will help promote and develop the organization’s expanding range of international programs, including those aimed at accelerating the clean energy transition in Africa and small island states, as well as RMI’s extensive partnerships in China.
Paul’s experience has spanned the public and private sectors throughout his 17-year career. Prior to his recent move to Boulder, Paul served in the White House as special assistant to the President and senior director for energy and climate change at the National Security Council. Paul played a principal role in the formulation of recent U.S. climate policies, including the design of the Paris Agreement, the historic U.S.-China presidential joint climate announcements, and the doubling of clean energy research and development budgets by 20 major countries through the Mission Innovation initiative.
Paul previously served at the U.S. State Department as director for climate finance and counselor to the Special Envoy for Climate Change where he led the design and implementation of several pioneering finance initiatives including the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance, the U.S.-Africa Clean Energy Finance Initiative, the phase-out of U.S. financing for coal-fired plants overseas, and the world's first market-based approach to allocating concessional funding for climate mitigation (the World Bank's Pilot Auction Facility).
Earlier in his career, Paul served as director of carbon finance at Climate Change Capital, manager of the world’s largest private carbon fund, where he ran a team of investment professionals in China focused on industrial energy efficiency and industrial gases.
