Pearson to Host the “STEM Education Series: Closing the Gender Gap” Event
New York, NY and San Jose, CA (PRWEB) January 22, 2015 -- According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 17 of the top 20 highest paying jobs require STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) skills. Unfortunately, statistics show that far fewer women than men are choosing to major in STEM programs, and even fewer are pursuing STEM and STEAM (STEAM adds arts) careers. The STEM Education Series: Closing the Gender Gap event seeks to address this challenge.
WHAT: The event focuses on how institutions, educators and industry leaders can work together to close the gap in STEM education and STEM careers.
WHEN: February 19-21, 2015 at the Fairmont San Jose in San Jose, California.
WHO: Pearson has partnered with learning leaders from Higher Education, K–12, and STEM industries in Silicon Valley, including: Google, Code.org, Maker Ed, Girls Who Code, and the City of San Francisco. Speakers include Mona Akmal, Director of Product at Code.org; Deborah Acosta, Chief Innovation Officer, City of San Leandro; Danielle Feinberg of Pixar Animation Studios; and J. Robert Gillette, Associate Professor of Economics, the University of Kentucky.
