Traditionally, finding low weight or empty pouches on high-speed pouching lines has required low-tech feeler gauges that simply don’t work very well, often completely missing low weight pouches that drive customer complaints.
Sampling approaches to checking weight can help spot trends, but don’t find problems immediately and therefore cannot prevent intermittent fill problems.
The Peco-Inspx high-speed X-ray inspection system can inspect every single pouch on a high-speed pouching line and can operate at speeds up to 5,000 pouches per minute. These systems can electronically weigh pouches to +/- 0.5% of their actual weight and can detect empty pouches with absolute accuracy and no false rejects.
An additional operational benefit is that each inspected pouch can be mapped back to the corresponding filler pocket – making it incredibly easy to identify malfunctioning filler components.
