The newest Marriott Hotel in Texas opened its doors to guests in January 2019. The Marriott Convention Center includes a multi-level garage treated with PENETRON ADMIX to provide permanent waterproofing protection for the concrete structures.
EAST SETAUKET, N.Y., Feb. 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The newest Marriott Hotel in Texas opened its doors to guests in January 2019. The Marriott Convention Center includes a multi-level garage treated with PENETRON ADMIX to provide permanent waterproofing protection for the concrete structures.
The new $77 million hotel, located in downtown Midland, Texas (mid-way between Fort Worth and El Paso), features 97 guestrooms on five floors. An above-grade, multi-floor garage provides on-site parking for 365 cars. The below-grade concrete retaining walls and foundation slab securing the garage structure needed a dependable waterproofing solution to ensure long-term protection from aggressive chemicals and moisture from rainstorms.
Resisting Moisture and Chemical Attack

PENETRON ADMIX – in soluble bags – was added to the concrete mix during the batching phase. The bags dissolve quickly and completely during this phase. Adding the admixture in pre-measured soluble bags ensures correct mixing for any project and helps save time and costs, in addition to reducing the permeability of the finished concrete.
Decreased Permeability Means Increased Durability
Over 1,000 cubic yards of PENETRON ADMIX-treated concrete was used for the below-grade retaining walls and foundation slab supporting the concrete structures of the Marriott Hotel's parking garage.
"While an optimal W/C ratio is key in achieving the desired overall concrete performance, permeability is crucial for concrete durability," adds Christopher Chen. "PENETRON ADMIX reduces shrinkage cracking and seals micro-cracks. It also has the added benefit of self-healing hairline cracks over the service life of the structure.
