Once it’s in the mix, PENETRON ADMIX becomes an integral part of the concrete matrix. This protects concrete from deterioration, even under conditions of hydrostatic pressure.

Construction on the office and retail wing of the Swedish Medical Center in Denver, Colorado was completed in July 2020. Penetron crystalline technology was used to waterproof the new foundation slab and retaining walls of the Center’s boiler room.
An acute care hospital with 408 beds, Swedish Medical Center in Denver, Colorado is part of the HCA HealthONE healthcare network. Serving the wider Denver metropolitan area, Swedish cares for more than 200,000 patients annually with a team of over 3,400 employees (including physicians) and 500 volunteers. The Center’s services include emergency care, neurotrauma and orthopedic trauma care. The Center is the area’s only level I trauma facility with a dedicated burn and reconstructive center.
Renovations and upgrades to the Swedish Medical Center included construction of a foundation slab and retaining walls for the expanded boiler room by J.E. Dunn, the project contractor.
Choosing a Proven System
“The engineers at J.E. Dunn were thoroughly familiar with the advantages of the Penetron System,” explains Christopher Chen, Director of The Penetron Group. “After reviewing the specifics of the location in Denver, the Penetron System was approved and PENETRON ADMIX was specified for the concrete mix.”
The ready-mix supplier, Brennan Ready-Mix, added PENETRON ADMIX during the batching phase. PENEBAR SW waterstop strips sealed the construction joints and a combination of PENETRON and PENECRETE MORTAR was used to permanently seal the tie-holes.
Concrete with an Extended Service Life
Once added to the concrete mix, the active ingredients in PENETRON ADMIX generate a non-soluble crystalline formation throughout the pores and capillary tracts of the concrete that permanently prevents the penetration of water or liquids from any direction. The concrete acquires a self-healing capability to seal all cracks, pores and capillaries up to 0.5mm (1/51”) in size for the lifetime of the concrete – providing a waterproof and durable structure with an extended service life.
“Once it’s in the mix, PENETRON ADMIX becomes an integral part of the concrete matrix,” adds Christopher Chen. “This protects concrete from deterioration, even under conditions of hydrostatic pressure.”
