Pennsylvania Law Firm Cordisco & Saile Announces Leukemia Scholarship Winner for 2019

TREVOSE, Pa., Aug. 5, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Each year, Pennsylvania based law firm Cordisco & Saile, LLC chooses one individual who is a leukemia survivor or whose life has been affected by an immediate family member having leukemia to receive a $1,500 scholarship to the school of their choice. This cause is close to the hearts of the team at Cordisco & Saile. Attorney, Michael Saile's son suffered from Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), so he knows firsthand the hardships faced by those battling leukemia and their loved ones. Attorney Saile said, "We hope this scholarship relieves some financial burden for a student who has already sacrificed so much in their fight against this disease."

This year, we are pleased to announce our winner, Annette Lysan. Annette is currently a student at Boston University's School of Social Work pursuing her Master's Degree. She is a leukemia survivor who was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) at the age of one. As the result of her condition, Annette underwent many surgeries and procedures as a child and is familiar with the difficulties and emotional challenges unique to childhood illness.

Annette's hope is to work with children and families in a hospital setting to assist them as they face the obstacles hospitalization and sickness can bring. Inspired by the social workers who worked with her in her childhood, she plans to use her familiarity with facing a life-threatening illness to help children and their families cope with the physical and mental challenges that they encounter in the same situation. She believes her ability to understand and empathize with their unique circumstance will help her to serve families with "a professional level of faith, love, and helpfulness" similar to what she experienced as a child.
