The event highlighted several new businesses seeking investment opportunities in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Personam’s presentation was delivered by Chris Kauffman, Founder and CEO of the company. “The media and the cyber-security community often treat the Insider Threat as if it were a cyber-security problem,” said Mr. Kauffman, who directed the 2-year R&D program at Sphere of Influence, Inc where the technology was initially invented. “But the truth is that Insider Threats are different. They’re not hackers on the outside trying to make their way through perimeter defenses. They’re one of us, and they have been granted by their employer all of the access they need to commit the fraud, theft or sabotage from within.” Mr. Kauffman went on to quote a Carnegie Mellon CERT study that finds most insider threats in cases of fraud in the financial industry have worked for the five years before committing any crime. “The only viable means to address insider threats must be based in an understanding of their behaviors,” Mr. Kauffman said.
At the event, Personam was accompanied by advisor Babak Hafezi of HafeziCapital International Consulting, a business management-consulting firm that works with technology companies to assist in Growth, Organization/Re-organization, International Market Entry and Capitalization consulting services.
