Global study of 230+ organisations shows understanding of employee wellbeing's value, but 78% do not tailor wellbeing support to individual employee needs
LEEDS, England, Sept. 21, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Personify Health®, the company making healthier easier and less costly, today released a new report revealing that while organisations understand the need to invest in employee wellbeing, most lack the strategic foundations required to deliver measurable business impact. The 2026 Global Workplace Health & Wellbeing Maturity Report analysed responses from more than 230 organisations worldwide to assess broader market maturity and found that the biggest disconnects between investment and outcomes result from lack of personalisation, executive accountability, and detailed frameworks for measuring ROI.
The findings also point to clear opportunities for action, with Personify Health experts helping organisations translate assessment insights into stronger governance, improved measurement, and more personalised engagement strategies.
"Employers have made meaningful progress in recognising the importance of employee wellbeing, but our findings show that investment alone is not enough," said Jill King, senior vice president, international for Personify Health. "The organisations achieving the greatest impact are treating wellbeing as an important aspect of the employee experience with clear goals, accountability, measurement, and leadership ownership. The challenge isn't whether organisations care about wellbeing; the challenge is translating that commitment into disciplined execution."
Organisations are Investing in Wellbeing, With Opportunities to Strengthen Impact
Personify's research identified three areas where organisations can strengthen the value of their wellbeing investments:
- Organisations struggle to measure impact – The study found that 82% of organisations lack the measurement framework needed to connect wellbeing spending and ROI, while only 11% integrate wellbeing metrics with broader business KPIs. Without meaningful data capture and measurement, leaders face increasing difficulty defending investments, prioritising resources, and scaling successful programmes.
- Personalisation remains the largest untapped opportunity – The report found that 78% of organisations do not tailor wellbeing support to individual employee needs, while 81% make limited use of analytics and technology to personalise experiences. As workforces become more diverse, generic approaches risk limiting engagement, relevance, and outcomes.
- Leadership support has not yet become organisational accountability – The study found that 69% of leaders provide only reactive support for wellbeing, while more than a quarter of organisations (26%) report no clear ownership of wellbeing initiatives. Organisations that achieved higher maturity scores were significantly more likely to have clear accountability, leadership ownership, and structured decision-making processes in place. The analysis found that maturity is driven less by the number of wellbeing initiatives offered and more by how effectively strategy, leadership, culture, and resources work together to support execution.
Three Actions for Employers
Based on the findings, Personify Health recommends that organisations focus on practical steps that improve integration, prioritisation, and accountability:
- Integrate wellbeing into the entire employee experience, rather than a standalone activity with siloed ownership.
- Focus on a small number of high-impact priorities instead of expanding disconnected initiatives.
- Build accountability for wellbeing into leadership responsibilities, governance processes, and operational reviews.
