The results from a reader survey, "A Year in the Life of a Pet Parent," revealed, despite 2020 being a tough year for the American economy, the majority of pet parents still spent between $100 and $500 or more on non-medical needs and supplies.
PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 16, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- PetPlace.com today announced the results from a reader survey, "A Year in the Life of a Pet Parent," that assessed the habits and preferences of pet lovers across the country. The findings revealed that, despite 2020 being a tough year for the American economy, the majority of pet parents (64.73%) still spent between $100 and $500 or more on non-medical needs and supplies.
The PetPlace.com team distributed the survey to their reader community during the fall and collected more than 400 total responses. Readers were given the opportunity to address their day-to-day pet care routines, as well as the ways pet parenthood affects annual traditions, like holiday celebrations and vacations. The results -- published as a summary infographic show how dogs, cats, and other pets can make any year a little brighter.
"While the holidays may look a little different than in previous years, our survey suggests that pets will be joining the festivities like always," said Matt Deapo, Editor-in-Chief at PetPlace.com. "Almost 80% of our respondents reported including pet gifts on their holiday shopping lists."
In addition to shopping habits, the survey also took a look at pet parents' social media habits, whether they talk to their pet, if they allow their pet to sleep in bed with them, and whether or not they celebrate their pet's birthday each year.
Among PetPlace.com survey respondents, dogs and cats are the most popular pets. Nearly half (45.7%) of respondents are "dog people," around a quarter (25.8%) prefer cats,16% keep both animals under one roof, and about 12% responded to the survey with their horses, hamsters, and parakeets in mind.
"Tradition has mostly gone out the window this year," added Deapo. "Pets have provided our entire team with peace of mind and some much-needed stability throughout 2020 and it was wonderful to see how our community has also rallied behind their pets this year."
