Philadelphia Next Stop for PracticeLink’s National Physician Career Fair 10 City-Tour
PHILADELPHIA (PRWEB) August 07, 2018 -- The new reports should come as no surprise. In 2013, for example, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development released statistics indicating among 28 participating countries, the United States was ranked 24th for the number of physicians per 1,000 people. Of the reporting countries, only Canada, Poland, Mexico, and Korea have fewer physicians per capita.
There are several factors that affect the shortage. Experts point to two trends that have caused the current shortage. Practices have been flooded by aging baby boomers who are living longer and presenting with more complicated health concerns. At the same time, the overall population continues to increase, yet, the number of graduate medical education programs have not increased at the same rate.
According to ACGME, the state of Pennsylvania has the fourth-largest number of residents with more than 7,200 residents and 1,700 fellows for the 2018-2019 academic year. The 313 specialty programs and 403 subspecialty programs rank Pennsylvania third-largest in the nation. Philadelphia area institutions such as UPMC Susquehanna, Temple Health and Penn Medicine will be exhibiting at the career fair alongside other local, regional and national organizations representing more than 20 other states.
Certainly, those in the physician recruitment space can attest to the increasingly difficult job of filling physician vacancies. Physician recruiters from throughout the mid-Atlantic region will be meeting in Philadelphia this week to discuss strategies and tactics in their efforts to address the national physician shortage. The mid-Atlantic Physician Recruiter Association, MAPRA, will also be conducting a physician job fair in conjunction with PracticeLink.com, one of the nation’s leading physician job boards.
While online services like PracticeLink.com play a significant role in the recruitment of physicians and other healthcare professionals, physician recruiters are forced to compete for talent and engage like marketers to sell their opportunities. The shortage and increased competition has led to healthcare organizations participating in more face-to-face recruitment efforts, such as career fairs and specialty conferences, in an effort to find the brightest candidates to fill their positions. As a result, physicians increasingly cite attending career fairs as a meaningful part of their job search process.
The Philadelphia Physician Career Fair will take place at the Sheraton Philadelphia University City Hotel, Wednesday, August 8, 2018 from 5 to 8 pm.
