PhoneBox partners with Languages Canada to make it easier for international students to get a Canadian phone number
PhoneBox becomes an official partner of the "Student Safe Corridor" project developed by Languages Canada to make it easy for international students coming to Canada to get a Canadian phone plan from their home countries. Students can now provide government officials with a valid contact number at the airport itself to facilitate contact tracing during the mandatory quarantine period.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Dec. 18, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- PhoneBox announced a new partnership with Languages Canada that helps international students get a Canadian phone number before they arrive in the country.
Phonebox has been selected to become a partner of the "Student Safe Corridor" project developed by Languages Canada. It aims to help international students have an effortless arrival experience in the midst of the pandemic. The project consists of a package that includes accommodation, transportation, meals, health insurance, and a SIM card for the 14-night quarantine period for international students. PhoneBox's role is to provide students with a Canadian phone number they can register with the border service agents upon arrival.
As of November 21, 2020, the ArriveCan App requires international students to provide a valid contact number in Canada as a public health measure. PhoneBox has made it possible for them to order a SIM card before traveling through a simple process on the Languages Canada website. This method facilitates means of contact tracing during the period of mandatory quarantine for both students and government officials.
The sim card comes equipped with 5GB of data, unlimited Canada-wide calling, and unlimited international text and picture messaging. The service allows students to provide updates on the status of their health and stay connected with their families. Students also have the option to get their SIM card delivered to their Canadian address or internationally at no extra cost to them. With their own devices from overseas, the newly arrived students can immediately connect to and use the wireless network in Canada.
"PhoneBox recognizes the initial struggle that international students go through when they land in Canada for the first time. We want to offer affordable alternatives that make it easier for them to stay connected during their quarantine. We hope to make students' arrival less stressful through these challenging times with this partnership," said Stefannie Rosa, Marketing Director at Phonebox.
PhoneBox is a wireless network provider that offers affordable mobile plans on 4G LTE networks. Since 2011, PhoneBox has partnered with several institutions and organizations that help international students arriving in Canada stay connected with family and friends.
Languages Canada is a non-profit organization that represents members from accredited English and French language programs. They promote several study locations across Canada and provide a support system for a large community of international students.
