PHTA Issues Call for Participation on Revision of Public Pool and Spa Standards
The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance seeks subject matter experts to assist in the revision of the ANSI/APSP/ICC-1 2014 American National Standard for Public Swimming Pools and the Standard for Public Spas.
ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 30, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Pool & Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) has issued a call for participation in the revision of the ANSI/APSP/ICC-1 2014 American National Standard for Public Swimming Pools and the Standard for Public Spas. PHTA is seeking member participation on the PHTA-1 Standard Writing Committee (SWC) for Public Pool and Spa Design, Construction, and Installation and PHTA-2 SWC for Public Pool and Spa Operations and Maintenance.
The provisions of the PHTA-1 Standard apply to the construction, alteration, movement, renovation, replacement, repair and maintenance of aquatic recreation facilities, pools and spas while the PHTA-2 Standard is intended to cover public/commercial aquatic venues operation and maintenance. In addition, the PHTA-2 Standard can be used by state and local authorities as a health and safety code for the operation and maintenance of all types of public aquatic venues.
"PHTA formed a Commercial Council to fully represent the commercial pool and spa segments of our industry. As part of this effort, PHTA began a process to create a new PHTA-1 Standard for Public Pool and Spa Design, Construction and Installation, and PHTA-2 Standard for Public Pool and Spa Operations and Maintenance," said PHTA-1 and PHTA-2 SWC Chair Dennis Berkshire of Aquatic Design Group.
"It is the PHTA Commercial Council's intent to bring these standards not only into alignment with the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code (ISPSC) and the Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC) but to impact their future development and evolution. The revised PHTA-1 and PHTA-2 standards will be significant resources representing modern commercial pool and spa technologies, science and engineering, and industry best practices," continued Berkshire.

Designers, builders, service companies and retail businesses providing goods and services for public swimming pools, spas and aquatic venues as well as regulatory bodies, building code officials and consumers are encouraged to participate on the PHTA-1 SWC. U.S. public health and code officials, local municipalities, spa operators, service companies and consumers are encouraged to participate on the PHTA-2 SWC.
