EVERGREEN, Colo., Sept. 1, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Phylum, the company defining the future of software supply chain security, recently announced the appointment of Dan Burns to its board of directors. Most recently, Mr. Burns served as the co-founder and CEO of Optiv.
Burns is a leading expert on cybersecurity, business strategy, and technology with over three decades of experience. His deep experience scaling companies from inception to industry defining enterprises is a tremendous asset to Phylum's continued growth. The news comes on the heels of Phylum's recent $4.5M Seed Funding announcement.
"Open-source software is here to stay. However, companies are afraid of the unknown. They rely so heavily on this untrusted ecosystem, which is essentially the wild west of development. The reality is that today's malicious actors are highly sophisticated, and it's impossible for developers to manually check every software package for security soft spots and other issues," said Burns.
Burns continued, "From what I've seen firsthand and from conversations with CSOs in my network, it's clear that this industry requires a new approach and technology. I'm extremely excited to see how Phylum is bringing the future of software supply chain security to companies that require better defense and protection today. As a board member, I look forward to helping the team continue to reach even more companies and achieve its mission to secure the universe of code."
As co-founder and CEO of Accuvant, Burns built the company into the chief provider of information security for some of the largest organizations in the world. Burns launched the sales force and grew it to a national powerhouse organization within a 10-year period, conducting business with nearly half of the Fortune 500, and driving $740M in revenue in 2014. In 2015, Burns worked with Blackstone to merge Accuvant and Fishnet Security to create Optiv, one of the world's leading cybersecurity solutions companies.
Aaron Bray, co-founder and CEO of Phylum, commented: "With a unique blend of talents and expertise, Dan has helped companies achieve remarkable milestones of growth. We are fortunate to have him as a member of our leadership and look forward to his guidance as we build Phylum into a major cybersecurity leader in the DevSecOps space."
Phylum's mission is to secure the universe of code, beginning with open-source software supply chain security. Its technology applies machine learning, deep analytics, and static code analysis to defend systems from far more than known software vulnerabilities. To learn more, visit phylum.io.
