Through the financial support of PhysicianLoans, a deserving student, or students, is awarded a $1000 scholarship by the Student Osteopathic Medicine Association Foundation, at its spring convention held each year in Washington DC.
Kracht is a third-year osteopathic medical student, and freshman Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) scholar/fellow, enrolled at Midwestern University Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) in Glendale, Arizona. The award has given her an opportunity to "share a memorable experience with the medical community about a particular juvenile diabetes patient with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)." Kracht outlined the patient's unique pathology in the scholarship application and detailed how she adjusted osteopathic treatment goals to manage the patient's chronic pain.
Scholarships provide key motivators to encourage students to learn more about the sciences and broaden their osteopathic medicine skills. PhysicianLoans has been the sole sponsor of the A.T. Sill Memorial Scholarship and has steadily increased its financial support since its initial funding. "The alignment between our scholarship investment and a physician's education has direct impact on students when they graduate.
