Pinelawn Memorial Park And Arboretum To Release 150,000 Ladybugs To Demonstrate Naturally Controlling Harmful Pests At Their Ladybug Release Event
A fun and educational activity showcasing a natural method of pest control at Pinelawn
FARMINGDALE, N.Y., Aug. 7, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Pinelawn Memorial Park And Arboretum will offer guests the chance to take part in their exciting ladybug release event. This hands-on event will take place in two rose gardens at Pinelawn. It will educate guests on the benefits of releasing a natural predator into the environment as opposed to using potentially harmful chemicals. Masks are required at all times and social distancing will be implemented throughout the event to ensure the safety of participants.
At this fun educational event, children and adults alike will have the opportunity to help release the 150,000 ladybugs throughout Pinelawn Memorial Park And Arboretum's rose gardens to control a common pest known as the Aphid. The Aphid can be harmful to the health of the arboreta and plants that Pinelawn works so hard to protect; however, by using integrated pest management and releasing the Aphid's natural predator, using toxic chemical pesticides can be avoided. This method helps to maintain a healthy environment that is safe for the plants, arboreta, flowers, and animal species that reside in Pinelawn. In addition to the release, children will receive a coloring activity to take home to show all they've learned from the event.

Pinelawn is offering three sessions for the Ladybug Release to allow for simpler social distancing. The first session will be located at Pinelawn's Reception Office Rose Garden, on the east side of Wellwood Avenue. Check-in for the first session will begin at 10:00 am, the event will occur from 10:30 am to 11:30 am. The second session will be located at Pinelawn's Louis Natalie Mall, on the west side of Wellwood Avenue. This session will begin with a 1:30 pm check-in and will occur from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The third session will also be located at Pinelawn's Louis Natalie Mall and will begin with a 4:00 pm check-in, the event will occur from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Additionally, water and pre-packaged snacks will be served to all guests, and portable bathrooms will be available at each session location.
While this is a free event, guests must register online before attending.
