Piranha Plug Launches Kickstarter, Offers Consumers and Businesses the Ultimate Solution to Phone Charger Loss and Theft
CHICAGO, July 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Today, Piranha Plug launched its Kickstarter campaign to raise funds in support of the world's first, locking USB charger. The new Piranha Plug product is the ideal solution for disappearing phone cords. It features two secure locking technologies; a charging cube that locks into wall outlets and a cord latch that tethers any USB cord to the charging cube, preventing both wall and cord removal. At 2.5 amps, the Piranha Plug charger offers users the fastest, high-speed, dynamic charging time. Additionally, Piranha Plug is available in all cell phone cord types (Apple lightning, micro, type-c) and will be MFi certified (made for iPhone/iPod/iPad) to ensure compatibility with all device types.
Piranha Plug's outlet locking technology relies on a wall outlet's faceplate screw to semi-permanently secure into the outlet and is engineered to work with all standard wall outlet receptacles (two gang, decora, GFCI). Piranha Plug can be installed in an easy, three-step process; simply unscrew an outlet's faceplate screw, plug in Piranha Plug, and replace the faceplate screw. The USB-Lock version of Piranha Plug takes it a step further with an additional latch arm to prevent removing any USB cord plugged into the charger and is compatible with all USB-friendly devices.
"It's critical to understand the demands of customers, both from a B2C and B2B perspective, for a charger locking device like this," said Piranha Plug founder and CEO, Rob Crowder. "Piranha Plug checks the box for both audiences, as there is a need to keep chargers and cords from being unplugged and stolen in both personal and corporate environments."
Crowder, who previously oversaw product development and managed the production of custom hardware in China for unicorn tech start-up, Outcome Health, has a successful track record in bringing new products to market. At Outcome Health, he custom manufactured 200,000 Android devices to be installed in doctors' offices. Additionally, Rob successfully launched his first Kickstarter campaign in 2017, raising 140%+ of his initial Kickstarter goal. Having already secured multiple patents, Crowder hopes to continue to launch additional products, like Piranha Plug, that bring unique, and previously unprovided, benefits to both consumers and businesses.
At launch, Piranha Plug will be available in both fixed and removable cord versions. Cord lengths will initially be offered in 4-foot and 10-foot lengths with the potential for a 6-foot option depending on the success of the Kickstarter campaign. If a cord is purchased, the customer will be able to choose which charger tip will accompany their Piranha Plug. At retail, Piranha Plug will be priced at $24.99 to $29.99 depending on the options.
Estimates show the annual cell phone accessory market is currently at $220+ billion dollars a year, with phone chargers making up a large portion of that market. Piranha Plug hopes to fill a void and unmet demand for a secure, locking phone charger in this exciting and lucrative market. Already having received its ETL certification, the Piranha Plug team is working with Apple for its MFi certification.
"In today's fast-paced environment, there isn't adequate time to spend searching for a phone charger," said Crowder. "When using Piranha Plug, you'll have peace of mind that your cord is where you left it last and not borrowed or stolen by your children, spouse, co-workers, or friends."
