Experienced industry leader joins Planet Depos to strengthen reporter engagement and development
WASHINGTON, Aug. 31, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Planet Depos, a global leader in court reporting and litigation technology, is pleased to announce that Sonja Vargas has joined the company as the Reporter Success Manager. In this role, she will focus on reporter engagement and ongoing education, helping court reporters grow throughout their experience with Planet Depos while supporting the high standards clients expect from the company.
Sonja brings a distinctive combination of firsthand court reporting experience, agency operations expertise, reporter engagement, and a passion for supporting the professional development of reporters.
Her introduction to court reporting began with a keyboarding class in high school, an experience that ultimately led her to pursue the profession and earn her certification as a Texas Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR). She went on to gain firsthand experience in both freelance and deputy official reporting roles, giving her a deep understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities, expectations, and challenges court reporters face.
Sonja later returned to the agency side of the profession, beginning in reporter scheduling before advancing into a leadership role where she focused on strengthening reporter relationships, recruiting and onboarding reporters, overseeing reporter workflows, and mentoring new reporters to support their long-term success and retention.

In her new role, Sonja will also be an active contributor to Planet Institute, providing meaningful guidance, education, and professional development opportunities for reporters of all experience levels. Her dedication to developing reporters extends beyond Planet Depos; Sonja regularly participates in state and national court reporting conventions, supports court reporting students, and volunteers as an instructor for Project Steno Basic Training, helping prepare and encourage the next generation of court reporters.
