PlayCore Awards First Inclusive National Demonstration Site to Tawawa Park
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (PRWEB) October 30, 2019 -- The City of Sidney, Ohio is welcoming their first public inclusive playground at Tawawa Park with a grand opening on October 31, 2019. The playground is designed to promote community play between people of all abilities.
The Sidney community declared inclusion to be a major priority and making certain that everyone can enjoy outdoor recreation together, so they worked to provide a public place where they could do just that.
With help from the community and the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs, they were able to raise the funds that were needed. The support was in such surplus that the initial goal was not only met but surpassed allowing the park to grow to the size of the area and add additional play features. “The Sidney and Shelby County community never ceases to amaze me with their generosity. This project is being provided to the community, without utilizing tax dollars to purchase the equipment and makes me proud to be from the area,” states Duane Gaier, Parks Director.
The City of Sidney is proud of becoming a National Demonstration Site. They say it’s a great asset for people from out of town to find outside recreation that is inviting for all children to play, laugh and have fun without barriers. The new playground is located at the front of a 220-acre park that consists of soccer fields, play structures, picnic shelters, trails and a nature preserve.
PlayCore recognizes Tawawa Park as an Inclusion National Demonstration Site following design best practices outlined in “Me2 ®: 7 Principles of Inclusive Playground Design ®.”
To continue to celebrate Tawawa Park’s commitment to advancing play and recreation through best practices, the schools will receive a certificate of recognition, become a part of a network of potential research sites, and will be promoted actively to other communities wishing to create recreation spaces using design and/or programming. More importantly, the community will be able to share outcomes and community vitality data by utilizing the National Demonstration site sign to share their experiences.
