Annual grant is awarded to new silver jewelry businesses, based on jewelry design and business prowess.
PRESCOTT, Ariz., July 1, 2025 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Brigid Pickett, founder and designer behind Plume Handmades, has won the 2025 Halstead Grant for new jewelry businesses. Brigid receives a $7,500 cash grant, $1,000 in jewelry supplies, a trip to Prescott, Arizona, a detailed feedback report from the judging committee, and a signature trophy.
Grant founder and Halstead President, Hilary Halstead Scott said, "Plume already has a loyal online following of collectors thanks to Brigid's beautiful jewelry line and brand aesthetic. Our judging panel got to see the impressive financial and strategic planning behind all the striking visuals. Brigid Pickett is an outstanding jewelry entrepreneur."
Brigid began her silversmithing career by enrolling in an online class and slowly refining her technique and skills before working out her signature minimalist style. She focuses on clean lines and geometric shapes with a soft, organic quality. Primarily working with sterling silver and turquoise, she creates one-of-a-kind pieces from her backyard studio in Boise, Idaho.
Brigid said, "Winning the Halstead Grant is an incredible honor and a meaningful step forward in my journey as a jewelry artist and small business owner. As a self-taught silversmith, my path has been slow and steady. This grant has given me the opportunity to invest in both my education and my tools, while also encouraging me to set clear goals and map out a pathway to achieve them. Beyond the funding itself, having Halstead's support and encouragement has given me the confidence to keep going—to keep putting my art, and my heart, out into the world."
Plume Handmades draws inspiration from a flowering shrub in the Southwest to weave together jewelry pieces that are delicate and intricate, yet resilient and strong. She focuses on minimal, organic forms and works in vibrant gemstones. Most of her current pieces are one-of-a-kind small batch releases with a selection of made-to-order available ranging from $26 to $168.
The Halstead Grant also awarded finalist prizes of $1,000 cash grant and $250 in jewelry supplies to Enoch Michael, SkyJune Designs, and Sable Stone Silver.
The Halstead Grant began in 2006 to bring the business plan concept to the jewelry community. It provides resources for creative entrepreneurs to establish clear goals and measurable steps toward self-sufficiency. The application requires more than jewelry portfolio photos. Questions cover a business plan including marketing, competitive analysis, finances, and production capacity. The 2026 Halstead Grant application is now available online.
