TUCSON, Ariz., Oct. 16, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Parkinson & Movement Disorder Alliance (PMD Alliance), an independent national nonprofit dedicated to providing opportunities for people with movement disorders to learn, live more fully and spark meaningful connections around them, is celebrating five years of service, programming and impact around the country.
PMD Alliance works with different audiences impacted by and involved with movement disorders including the person with the diagnosis, family and friends, medical experts, speech and physical therapists and social and civic groups. Through in-person and virtual workshops and comprehensive online resources, the organization provides the latest medical and wellness information for people living with a diagnosis. Their programming serves to educate and create virtual and on-the-ground social networks for patients and their care givers enabling them to best advocate for their health needs.
The organization was co-founded by chief executive officer, Sarah Jones, whose wife's father lived with Parkinson's disease. "After witnessing how the disease impacted his life and his challenge accessing the latest information about living with the condition," Jones said, "I knew an organization needed to be created to attend to the tens of millions of people – not just patients – whose lives are impacted by Parkinson's and other movement disorders."
Since its founding in 2015, PMD Alliance has provided real, honest and empathic services that moved the needle on quality of life and reduced isolation faced by the more than 40 million Americans living with movement disorders. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization hosted 91 virtual workshops, reaching more than 8,300 people from all 50 states 15 different countries.
