Pogo Linux Redesigns Atlas Server Performance With 2nd-Gen AMD EPYC™ Processors

The redesigned Atlas AMD Servers will take advantage of Rome's features that focus on high-performance computing, multi-cloud implementation, virtualization and data-intensive workloads at the edge. The new Pogo Linux AMD EPYC™ servers are now shipping in volume across the company's entire Atlas server product lineup.

AMD has made significant changes to their CPU architecture which help deliver twice the number of cores and threads than the previous Zen architecture. Compared to the 'Naples' processor architecture, Zen 2 has 32 billion transistors, which makes it one of the most densely-packed chip design ever developed. Code-named "Rome", the 2nd-generation AMD CPUs are the first x86 processors to market based on 7 nanometer (nm) technology. While lowering power consumption and improving instructions per cycle, the 7-nm core process technology has doubled the density with up to 64 cores and up to 128 threads.
