BONITA SPRINGS, Fla., Dec. 17, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- As a response to the medical questions surrounding the role of electric gun control weapons in officer-involved deaths and the trending discussion of police brutality in America, cardiologist and author Doug Zipes has released "Bear's Promise," a captivating legal thriller about the struggle between a bereaved attorney and a reckless police lieutenant who is unafraid to take drastic measures to protect his innocence and career.
Melanie Simpson calls 911 for her husband Jared, who is trapped in a dangerous state of post-seizure psychosis and needs to go to the hospital for medicine. After Jared accidentally assaults the responding officer, a dangerous police lieutenant named Vincenzo Sparafucile arrives on the scene and mercilessly shoots Jared with an Electric Gun, stopping his heart and killing him. When his son seeks revenge against the brutal lieutenant, Sparafucile kills him too.
It's up to Melanie's brother, Jason "Bear" Judge, an ex-FBI agent turned trial attorney, to prosecute and try Sparafucile for police brutality, and the CEO of the Electric Gun company, Beverly Slaughter, for failing to warn clients his gun could kill. When Bear takes them to court, he begins to find himself the target of several attempts on his own life. Throughout the trial, he clashes with Sparafucile and Slaughter as his own dark past with the FBI surfaces.
Zipes' experience providing subject-matter expertise in legal cases involving TASER-related deaths was a huge inspiration for the book. "Police brutality is a major problem in our country today and I don't think officers realize how deadly their 'less-lethal' weapons can really be," Zipes says. "I hope Sparafucile's actions in 'Bear's Promise' will shed some light on that issue. Although it is a fiction, the deaths from the Electric Gun are very possible."
Amazon reviewers laud Zipes' book as "another riveting read by Doug Zipes" and a "great read and page-turner…very easy for the non-medical reader to understand."
