The City of San Diego maintains one of the largest and longest running shared mobility device programs in the country. Nearly one million scooter trips, made possible by five different e-scooter operators, are taken throughout San Diego each year. Populus' advanced platform empowers cities of all sizes to manage mobility services with greater visibility, leverage data to inform decisions about where to place scooter parking and protected lanes, and implement innovative parking policies for new vehicle fleets.
Under the agreement, Populus will provide the city with access to its secure Mobility Manager platform, as well as other digital solutions that communicate and evaluate policies related to streets, curbs, and shared mobility devices. Digital tools of the Populus platform will enable City of San Diego team members to evaluate the renewed shared mobility device program. Some of these tools include flexible vehicle caps to incentivize preferred operator and rider behavior, utilization of shared mobility parking corrals, and assessment of transportation equity.
Populus will work with both the city and local operators to deploy surveys to evaluate program goals, as well as to understand broader micromobility issues, such as e-scooter safety and the potential role for micromobility to reduce congestion and climate impacts. Paired with mobility data through Populus' Mobility Manager platform, the city will have a comprehensive picture on the impacts of these new services and the digital solutions needed to effectively manage them.
