Practice EHR Announces Electronic Prescriptions for Controlled Substances (EPCS) Certification
PLANO, Texas (PRWEB) April 19, 2017 -- Practice EHR, a cloud-based electronic health record (EHR) and practice management (PM) company, today announced their EPCS product certification. The certification allows e-prescribing for Schedule II through V controlled substances from within Practice EHR.
Practice EHR completed the certification in compliance with the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA’s) Interim Final Rule (IFR) Title 21 CFR Part 1311—a regulation that permits e-prescribing for controlled substances and drives more efficient and secure processes.
“EPCS provides a safe and convenient way for physicians to prescribe scheduled medications electronically, and improves patient safety by reducing medication errors, prescription fraud and abuse,” said Khurshid Mughal, chief executive officer at Practice EHR. “We are pleased to announce our EPCS certification and offer e-prescribing to help our clients deliver better, safer and faster care.”
All applications used for e-prescribing controlled substances must undergo testing and certification through a third party auditor, required by the DEA. Practice EHR’s testing and certification was completed by Drummond Group, one of the first DEA-approved certification organizations.
“We chose to complete our certification with Drummond Group, one of the most experienced software testing and certification labs in the nation,” said Mughal. “Their expert-driven and detailed certification process ensures we can deliver EPCS to our clients with confidence.”
“Drummond Group’s certification process is backed by expertise and coupled with a customer-friendly approach, where we walk our customer through a complete requirements review, provide dry run testing with gap analysis and final certification,” said Aaron Gomez, director of EPCS certification at Drummond Group. “We congratulate Practice EHR on completing their EPCS certification.”
In compliance with DEA IFR Title 21 CFR Part 1311, all clinicians e-prescribing within Practice EHR will be required to review the company’s certification report and the DEA’s EPCS requirements. Clients who want to activate this functionality can call 469-305-7171 to speak with a Practice EHR support team member.
