Pradaxa Side Effects
Pradaxa was approved in October 2010 to treat patients with atrial fibrillation. However, since Pradaxa came on the market, the drug has been the subject of a number of safety alerts in the U.S. and abroad, according to Bloomberg.com. While it was touted as an improvement over warfarin, there exists no readily available antidote for reversing the life-threatening internal bleeding that is a known Pradaxa side effect.* Late last year, a study published by the Institute for Safe Medicine Practices reported that Pradaxa bleeding is 5 times more likely to result in death compared to warfarin bleeding.
All of the Pradaxa lawsuits pending in the Southern District of Illinois allege that Boehringer Ingelheim failed to provide adequate warnings regarding Pradaxa side effects, particularly the lack of an antidote for internal bleeding.
