New York, New York (PRWEB) July 25, 2013 -- Pradaxa lawsuit claims continue to move forward in the federal litigation underway in U.S. District Court, Southern District of Illinois, Bernstein Liebhard LLP reports. The Court also scheduled the Pradaxa bleeding litigation’s next Status Conference for August 8, 2013. (In Re: Pradaxa (Dabigatran Etexilate) Products Liability Litigation – MDL No. 2385)

Pradaxa Bleeding Lawsuits
Court documents indicate that more than 1,250 Pradaxa lawsuits have been filed in the Southern District of Illinois, all of which allege that Boehringer Ingelheim failed to provide adequate warnings regarding the drug’s side effects, particularly the lack of an antidote for Pradaxa bleeding. The first bellwether trial in the Pradaxa bleeding litigation is scheduled to start in September 2014.
Pradaxa was approved in October 2010 to treat patients with atrial fibrillation. However, since Pradaxa came on the market, the drug has been the subject of regulatory warnings in several countries, according to Bloomberg.com. While it was touted as an improvement over warfarin, there exists no readily available antidote for reversing the life-threatening internal bleeding that can sometimes occur in Pradaxa patients.* Most recently, a study published by the Institute for Safe Medicine Practices (ISMP) reported that Pradaxa bleeding is 5 times more likely to result in death compared to warfarin bleeding.**
Pradaxa patients who have suffered serious episodes of internal bleeding may be entitled to compensation for their medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering and more.
