Prairie Grove Farms Partners with Farmer Veteran Coalition to Help Veterans Become Farmers
Alameda, California (PRWEB) November 24, 2014 -- Prairie Grove Farms announced today it is partnering with Farmer Veteran Coalition and donating a portion of sales with the goal of raising $250,000 by December 2015. The contribution to FVC will support programs which prepare veterans to continue serving their country by feeding it.
Prairie Grove Farms’ product line is available at retail locations nationwide including DeCicco Family Markets, Mrs. Green’s, Raley’s Fine Foods and Tops Friendly Markets. All retailers are committed to providing consumers pork they can feel good about not only because the pork is antibiotic and hormone free, but because each purchase supports a farmer veteran.
“We are proud to support the work FVC is doing,” stated Ernie Davis, Prairie Grove Farms general manager. “They are cultivating a new generation of American farmers who want to continue serving our country after returning from military service.”
FVC serves military veterans of all eras and branches, with most of its veterans coming from the most recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. They work with veterans and their families, employers, and mentors to support those returning to or beginning careers in agriculture.
Prairie Grove Farms’ donations will underwrite the Fellowship Fund, which provides small grants of $2,500 to $5000 to veteran farmers for the tools they need to grow and manage a sustainable farming future. Grantees are also offered in-kind supplies, farming education, and one-on-one farming advice and mentorship.
“This contribution will make a huge impact on the lives and livelihoods of our veteran farmers,” stated Michael O’Gorman, FVC Executive Director. “This will allow more veteran farmers to access support programs which will help them succeed as entrepreneurs.”

Farmer Veteran Coalition:
Since 2008, the Farmer Veteran Coalition (FVC) has led the national effort to connect military veterans with careers in agriculture. FVC’s network of 3,000 veterans from all 50 states is served by a group of mentors, a small grants program, the Homegrown by Heroes label for veteran-grown products, and support with legal assistance, business planning, food safety and career counseling.
