Prairie View A&M University Leverages Terra Dotta to Support Study Abroad Program Growth and Visibility
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. With an expanding study abroad program, Prairie View deployed Terra Dotta’s solution to automate and streamline its study abroad recruitment, application and enrollment processes, which were formerly paper based.
“Adding Terra Dotta to help manage the application process and catalogue our programs has been a critical growth factor for our Study Abroad office,” said Evie Myers, Senior International Officer at Prairie View. “Our study abroad program was nascent but the number of applicants has quadrupled over the past three years. To support that type of growth we needed a technology solution to manage the comprehensive enrollment process.”
The growth of study abroad engagement at Prairie View – like many historically black college and universities (HBCUs) – is echoed in the IIE’s latest Open Doors report which indicates a 3-5 percent year over year increase in the number of black students studying abroad in recent years. Prairie View has used a U.S. Department of Education Title III grant to add more support in its international programs office, which has aided in the promotion and more widespread availability of program information.
In 2018 more than 100 Prairie View students studied abroad – mostly on faculty-led trips, such as an architecture program in Dubai and an entrepreneurial program in Cape Town, South Africa.
