Product Development Technologies (PDT) Shares Insight into New Technologies

PDT designers, mechanical and electrical engineers lead a dissection and exploration of Playstation 4’s DualShock4 Controller. By examining the device where the human physically interacts with the machine, PDT’s developers can start to evaluate what has changed and what has stayed the same. By taking a peek inside, the team was able to glean special design or engineering decisions that aren't evident upon first glance. Based on their observations, they have made a few educated guesses on how the next bit of gaming history could roll out.
PDT and Prescient Audio are debuting one of the most promising pieces of audio technology for smartphones at CES today. Prescient Audio, a 2014 CES Design and Engineering Award recipient, developed the Apollo AudioCase™ with PDT and will debut the concept at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in a press conference Wednesday, January 8.
The PDT team attends trade events throughout the year to stay at the cutting edge of new technologies, methods and trends in product development for the medical, defense, consumer and aerospace industries. Members of the research and user experience teams attended the Cleveland Clinic Medical Innovation Summit in November 2013 and now poke at the question, “How can the healthcare industry innovate while supporting insurers’ push to cost reduce?” Topics highlighted include stratification, prevention, data, adherence, and cost complexity. It also references 2014’s Top 10 Innovations according to the Cleveland Clinic, each linked to a video for further detail.
PDT’s Development Research Workshop, held in December 2013, focused on current research tools and methods. Overlying themes were based on the following three topics: key methods and tools of a research program, interview/observation best practices, and data synthesis best practices. Erik J. Moses, Director of Insights, notes, among other advice, “there is no substitute for being in the field observing workarounds and those ah-ha moments.”
