BALTIMORE, April 15, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Protego Labs today announced support for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Fargate as part of its overall security solution for serverless applications. AWS Fargate is a compute engine for Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS) that allows developers to run containers without having to manage servers or clusters. Rather than choose instance types, decide when to scale their clusters, or optimize cluster utilization, users define applications as "tasks."
"Moving to a managed service environment has quick security wins with the power of AWS, but as developers make this shift, they need to change the way they approach application security," said Hillel Solow, CTO and cofounder, Protego Labs. "The Protego solution with AWS Fargate creates an opportunity to vastly improve how developers think of application security in a cloud-native world by protecting the tasks in the same manner as the function, giving organizations greater visibility and security of their serverless resources."
Protego is the first and only platform of its kind that delivers full life-cycle security and behavioral intelligence to serverless applications from deployment to run-time, that can be up and running in just 20 minutes. It works by continuously scanning a company's serverless infrastructure, including tasks, logs, and databases. Using machine-based analysis and deep learning algorithms, Protego builds a model of normal function behavior to effectively detect and mitigate threats, anomalies, and malicious attacks as they initiate and propagate. Similar to serverless functions, cloud native containers present new ways attacks can come in, including non-HTTP data ingestion points.
"Moving security from the perimeter into the workloads is the most effective way to ensure attacks are mitigated regardless of where they come from," added Solow. "Whether they are functions or containers, if they are small narrow-purpose workloads, optimizing configuration, and applying behavioral defense within the workloads significantly reduces serverless application attack surfaces."
Recently, Protego Labs won the 2019 Cybersecurity Excellence Awards for Best Startup and was named a 2019 Company to Watch by SDTimes Magazine, as well as one of Baltimore's most promising startups on the realLIST2019 by Technical.ly Baltimore. In 2018, the company won an Innovator Award from SC Magazine, received Frost & Sullivan's Global New Product Innovation Award, and won the Startup Competition for the most innovative cyber initiative at the CyberTech Tel Aviv Conference.
