There is nothing “wrong” with you that needs to be fixed in order to find happiness, says author of Advanced Pragmatic Psychology, Susanna Mittermaier.

With a recent, alarming study from the University of Chicago finding that just 14% of Americans consider themselves to be “very happy”, it is clear that happiness feels out of reach for many.

Psychology used to be the art of “knowing”, but has turned into the study of behaviour and right versus wrong, says Mittermaier. “Pragmatic Psychology is about empowering you to know that you already know what is right for you and about creating a life that works for you” she says.

However, the solution to finding this supposedly elusive happiness is not to “fix” what we believe to be wrong with us, says Mittermaier. With the release of her new book Advanced Pragmatic Psychology, co-authored with Access Consciousness co-founder Gary Douglas, Mittermaier hopes to invite readers to discover what is true for them when it comes to creating the life they want, instead of “buying into” what is being presented to them by the world.

“Traditional psychology somehow evolved into a need to determine what we have to change about ourselves in order to be happy and create a life of joy. But what if you aren’t the ‘problem’ - and you just need different tools to navigate the world and create a life that brings you joy!” she says.
