PureMedia Software Launches Profanity Filtering eBook Reader on Kickstarter
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) November 06, 2013 -- PureMedia Software, a company focused on delivering family friendly solutions for popular media content, announced today the launch of its Kickstarter crowdfunding project for the PureMedia Reader. The company claims this app will allow users to "Hide vulgar language, sexual content, violence, and other types of offensive content."
"Today, there are many popular books that I or my family would like to read but choose not to because of our values," said company founder Jared Hicken. "At the same time, I understand and respect an author’s prerogative to write their books the way they think best tells the story. Our goal in designing the PureMedia Reader was to bridge the gap between good stories and family standards."
The primary feature of the app will hide book content based on user configurable settings. It will also provide parental controls for parents who are concerned about what their children are reading. For those instances where the filter settings miss content, the app allows users to mark content with a "content type" and "content severity" setting. This data will then be used with their personal settings and can also be shared with the company to help create better filters. The company states that they plan on making the app available on all consumer devices including ereaders, tablets, and smart phones.
The Kickstarter project page lists that the app will be available for free with an ad-supported version. For those who want the ad-free version, a subscription service will be available. Other features listed include standard reader functions such as bookmark syncing across devices, font settings, search, etc. The app will also include a built in book store for a fully integrated reading experience.
The PureMedia Reader has been in development for over a year but the company says they need the funding to accelerate the development process. "We plan on providing a beta version of the app to our supporters by early next year" says Jared Hicken. PureMedia Software plans on releasing the completed app by April 2013.
