QipWorks, Inc. Expands, Forming Partnership With Paul Carpenter
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (PRWEB) June 06, 2018 -- QipWorks, Inc., an intellectual property strategic advisory firm for companies, innovators and investors, today announced an expansion of its executive management team with the addition of Paul Carpenter as Partner.
Carpenter joined QipWorks earlier this year from Blackberry, where he most recently served as Head of Technology, IP Development and Standards, which managed a patent portfolio of 39,000 assets that was ranked 4th globally in the IEEE Patent Power survey in its sector. Carpenter served as a vital link between Blackberry’s C-suite professionals and technical experts on all matters related to IP, leading him to be recognized as a Top Intellectual Property Strategist by Intellectual Asset Management group and named to their 2017 IAM300 list. Carpenter’s experience ranged from strengthening licensing opportunities and representing Blackberry in international standards development to innovating and creating new technologies that resulted in more than 30 patents granted in the U.S. and nine declared as standard essential for wireless cellular technologies.

Carpenter received an MBA (with academic distinction) in engineering management from Bradford University School of Management and a Master of Science in Management of Intellectual Property from Queen Mary University of London. He also holds an MSc in engineering in Radio Communications and High Frequency Engineering as well as a BEng (with honors) in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, both from the University of Leeds.

Carpenter has established a beachhead for QipWorks’ European operations in the U.K., expanding the company’s business from its Cambridge, Massachusetts headquarters. He will be speaking on a panel at IAM’s IPBC Global Conference in San Francisco on Monday, June 11. The panel, entitled “This house believes that patent quality is a distraction — all that really matters is patent eligibility,” will examine what constitutes a quality patent, eligibility and the importance of predictability. Joining Carpenter on the panel, which takes place at 2:30 pm PST, is Bruce Berman, CEO of Brody Berman Associates, Inc.; Joshua Landau, Patent Counsel for the Computer & Communications Industry Association; and John Pilarski, Director, IP, for Johnson Controls International plc.
