Quality Insights Renal Network 5 Announces Partnership with Nonprofit to Raise Awareness of Kidney Disease through Film and Media
Quality Insights Renal Network 5 has partnered with the Forever is Tomorrow Foundation to develop a series of short videos to raise awareness about kidney disease, home dialysis, kidney transplantation, blood stream infections and gainful employment.
RICHMOND, Va., April 24, 2019 Quality Insights Renal Network 5 has partnered with the Forever is Tomorrow Foundation to develop a series of short videos to raise awareness about kidney disease, home dialysis, kidney transplantation, blood stream infections and gainful employment.
Quality Insights and the Forever is Tomorrow Foundation seek to educate the general public and raise awareness about the disease through the production and distribution of short documentaries, web/social media content and public service announcements. Videos will feature personal stories of five kidney warriors, including Artemeshia Adams, Latitia Felus, David White, Daronta Briggs and Patrick Gee. The videos were released throughout the month of March in honor of National Kidney Awareness Month.
Kidney disease is a growing epidemic in the United States and affects more than 26 million people. It is the ninth leading cause of death in the U.S., killing more people than breast or prostate cancer. Forever Is Tomorrow Foundation founder Scott Burton has lived with kidney disease since birth and currently does home hemodialysis.
In its advanced stages, some signs of kidney disease include:
- Fatigue, weakness
- Difficult, painful urination
- Foamy urine
- Pink, dark urine (blood in urine)
- Increased need to urinate (especially at night)
- Puffy eyes
- Swollen face, hands, abdomen, ankles, feet
- Increased thirst
"The videos will tell the patients' stories and highlight how kidney disease has impacted their lives," Renee Bova-Collis, Patient Services Director for Quality Insights Renal Network 5, said. "It's our hope that these videos can provide hope and express how early detection and treatment can slow or prevent the progression of kidney disease."
