Quality Mat Urges People to Donate Blood During National Blood Donor Month
Beaumont, Texas (PRWEB) December 31, 2013 -- Since January 1970, this upcoming month has been declared National Volunteer Blood Donor Month by the American Red Cross. With the holidays coming to an end, it’s difficult for the American Red Cross to collect the amount of blood donations that are needed. According to the American Red Cross, every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. Nationwide, on average, 44,000 blood donations are needed each day. The Beaumont Chapter of the American Red Cross has been serving the community of Beaumont since May 29, 1917. Since then, they’ve been providing care and collecting blood donations for families and people who have been through natural disasters and patients who are undergoing treatment for diseases and trauma.
January has proven a difficult month for blood donations. With inclement weather and seasonal illnesses, fewer people donate blood around this time of the year. Unfortunately, blood cannot be manufactured. It can only come from generous people who are willing to donate. Donating blood only takes a few minutes, but doing so can possibly save a life.
In addition to blood donation, the American Red Cross also provides meals and snacks, overnight stays, health and mental health visits, relief items, and more to families and people in need. The American Red Cross is accepting donations all year round, and people aren’t the only ones who can help. Businesses can do their part too by donating time or money to the cause. All of these donations help the American Red Cross provide emergency services and more to people in need.
