Quinceanera.com and Children's Hospital Celebrate a Cancer Survivor
Los Angeles, California (PRWEB) January 31, 2014 -- Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and Quinceanera.com held a special celebration at the hospital for cancer survivor Frida Lagunas on Saturday, January 25th and turned Frida’s dream into a reality by celebrating her fifteenth birthday with a Hollywood themed quinceañera.
Frida was diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of twelve and was able to overcome the disease through her strength, desire to live, and the amazing work of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
However, with all her family has endured, they couldn’t afford to celebrate her fifteenth birthday this past November. Having learned of the possibility that Frida may not get to experience the traditional 15th birthday celebration, Children’s Hospital and Quinceanera.com came together to commemorate the inspiring young lady’s life.
“This event is extremely significant for all of us. Frida’s journey is a representation of the hopes and dreams of so many young girls currently battling a serious medical condition. We are grateful to all the donors and Quinceanera.com for their support in making Frida’s lifelong dream possible,” said Dana Valenzuela, Senior Associate Director, Foundation Department at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
Frida and her family arrived in a limousine, followed by a glamorous red carpet where Frida shined in a beautiful fuchsia dress from famous designer Adan Terriquez from the Jenni Rivera’s Princesa collection.
“This is a celebration of life and I am extremely happy to be part of such a significant event. Five people collaborated in the elaboration of this dress, just so that Frida would look spectacular on her special day,” said Terriquez.

Erika Garza, ESPN Deportes anchor, served as Master of Ceremonies for the event. A surprise musical performance was made by Leonardo Aguilar, son of renowned Mexican singer and Grammy award-winner Pepe Aguilar. Leonardo was accompanied by a mariachi and sang three songs including the traditional “Mañanitas.” Leonardo Aguilar is a friend to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles where he serves as a Junior Ambassador, helping to raise awareness and funds for the patients and families served.
In the same spirit of giving inspired by the event, Dr. Feliciano Serrano who is a member of Los Compadres, a philanthropic support group for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles composed of Latino leaders, donated $10,000 to the hospital in Frida’s name to benefit children and families like Frida battling serious medical conditions.
