Milk is definitely for winners as executives from the Greatest Spectacle in Racing splashed into The Children's Museum of Indianapolis to kick off the month of May. It's tradition for the winner of the Indy 500 to drink and oftentimes pour a bottle of milk over their head. So this huge milk bottle seemed the perfect way to launch a month of motor sports excitement in the Racing Capital of the World. Consider this, a regular bottle of milk is 8 11/16" x 2 13/16" x 2 13/16". The huge one at the world's largest children's museum is roughly 850 times that by volume!

The faux milk sculpture gives the illusion of a real dairy product and creates a splash of fun-filled celebration within the Riley Children's Health Sports Legends Experience. This display honors the longstanding tradition and importance of milk to the Indy 500.
On May 1, 2023, VIPs from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) dropped off bottles of milk at the world's largest children's museum to kick off a month of racing in the Racing Capital of the World. The handoff was led by Roger Penske (Chairman of Penske Corporation), Mark Miles (President and CEO of Penske Entertainment Corporation), J. Douglas Boles (President of IMS), and Allison Melangton (Senior Vice President of Penske Entertainment Corporation).
The tradition of drinking milk after winning "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing" was started by driver Louis Meyer after he won the 1936 race and requested buttermilk to quench his thirst.
"One of the things that makes it so special is the history and traditions, that pomp and circumstance of the pre-race that you expect when you're there," said J. Douglas Boles, president, of Indianapolis Motor Speedway. "Then when the green flag falls, you have no idea how the 500 miles will play out. That's the biggest thing for me, it's the 107th edition of something that is unique every year."
Then, mark your calendars for Memorial Day 2023 (the day after the Indy 500) for the second annual Foyt 500! The race, named after A.J. Foyt—winner of four Indy 500s, gives kids, grownups, and legends-in-training a chance to race pedal cars around the miniature oval of the museum's Riley Children's Health Sports Legends Experience as they chase the Tony Stewart Trophy.
All month long, visitors will be invited to take selfies and other photos at the Big Spill.
