Presque Isle, ME (PRWEB) October 23, 2015 -- Randy Norsworthy, owner of North Country Auto, shares his top tips for preparing your vehicle for winter driving, and discusses North Country’s unique LifePledge warranty.
“Driving in harsh winter conditions is inevitable, particularly in places like northern Maine,” said Randy. “However, there are ways that drivers can be prepared for the winter months, and should get theirs cars checked prior to wet and/or snow conditions to avoid breaking down and being stranded in inclement weather.”
First and foremost, Randy suggests taking your vehicle to a trusted mechanic to have its battery, antifreeze level, thermostat, heater, brakes and defroster checked. Additionally, check to see if your tires have adequate tread or, if necessary, replace them with snow tires.
“Sometimes the small problem that you ignore may cause you to have bigger problems later,” said Randy. “Also, it is imperative to conduct a visual inspection of your vehicle’s lights, making sure that the rear lights are working, especially the flashing hazard lights, in case you do break down.”
Randy further states that purchasing winter wiper blades is essential, as well as replacing windshield wiper fluid with one that can spray in freezing conditions, as oftentimes in winter standard windshield wiper fluid can freeze. It is also crucial to keep your gas tank at least half full through the winter months in case you get stranded, and keeping enough gas in your car will prevent the tank from getting condensation, making your vehicle easier to start.
“Additionally, always ensure your cell phone is charged or bring a charger so you can contact someone in case of an emergency,” said Randy. “You should also have the following items in your car at all times in winter: window scraper, shovel, First Aid kit, flashlight, fresh batteries, blankets, matches, extra set of clothes, bottle of water, a few non-perishable food items and a small bag of sand for a rear-wheel-drive vehicle if it gets stuck or even just to give it a little more weight if needed.”
